Absolute Encoders
Absolute encoders are feedback devices that provide speed and position information by outputting digital words or bits related to motion. Absolute encoders provide a unique position value or data word at each point of rotation, representing the “absolute” position of the encoder. Unlike incremental encoders, which output a continuous, ubiquitous stream of pulses, absolute encoders output a unique word or bit for each position. The more unique codes there are on the encoder’s disc, the more precise your position reading will be. Absolute rotary encoders are used in a wide range of applications that require monitoring or control, or both, of mechanical systems.
