Switching Power Supplies
Switching power supply is an electronic power supply that incorporates a switching regulator to efficiently convert electrical power. It is used for high efficiency and high current operations. Like other power supplies, switching power supplies transfer power from a DC or AC source to DC loads, such as a personal computer, converting both voltage and current characteristics. Unlike linear power supplies, switching power supplies have pass transistors that are constantly switching between low-dissipation, fully on, and fully off states, and spend very little time in high-dissipation transitions, minimizing wasted energy. Switching power supplies are commonly used in computers, cell phone chargers, manufacturing equipment, and many low-voltage electronic devices.
